NUTMEG MINI DUFFLE (new pattern + video)
Friends,
I’m excited to introduce my newest sewing pattern, NUTMEG MINI DUFFLE, to you today!
Have you ever wanted to sew a duffle bag but felt intimidated by the idea of working with binding, unfinished raw edges, or complicated construction? Then this little cutie is just what you’ve been looking for! You will be surprised by just how easy it is to put together. With a few simple steps, you’ll have a gorgeous duffle bag ready to go.
You might even find that choosing the perfect fabric, zipper, and webbing combination takes longer than the sewing itself (speaking from experience here 😊).
This compact duffle measures approximately 12’’ wide x 7’’ tall x 7’’ deep. Its compact silhouette keeps your essentials neatly organized without feeling bulky, and it's perfectly sized for quick outings, gym trips, or days on the go. It would also make the most adorable sleepover bag for children.
The Nutmeg Mini features a main zipper closure and an inner slip pocket. It also includes carrying handles and a removable, adjustable shoulder strap.
All the seams are finished on the sewing machine, no hand sewing (or adding binding on the inside)!
The finished duffle is wonderfully squishy yet sturdy, thanks to the foam interfacing added to the exterior panels. Have you tried working with this type of interfacing before? It gives the bag structure without adding too much bulk, and I especially love the beautiful effect it creates when quilted.
Would you like to make your very own Nutmeg Mini Duffle? Here are the materials you’ll need:
Exterior fabric (Fabric A): 1/2 yard
Lining fabric (Fabric B): 3/4 yard
Foam Interfacing: 1/2 yard
SF101 (or similar medium-weight fusible interfacing): 1 ¼ yard
#5 Nylon Zipper by the Foot: 12.5" long Zipper Tape + 1 Zipper Pull
Webbing: 3 ¾ yards
1" D-Rings: 2
1" Strap Slider: 1
1” Swivel Hooks: 2
And to make the sewing process even easier, I’ve recorded a step-by-step video tutorial to guide you along the way. You can follow each step at your own pace, pausing the video whenever you need to take a closer look at a particular technique or detail. This way, you can sew along with confidence, knowing you can revisit any part of the process as often as needed.
